How to Bet on Hockey

At The Hot Picks, our team of winning professional sports bettors knows that hockey can provide tremendous betting opportunities throughout the NHL season. Whether you’re new to hockey betting or looking to sharpen your approach, understanding the fundamentals is the first step toward making smarter wagers.

Understanding Hockey Odds

Most sportsbooks use American odds. Positive odds (+) show how much profit you’d win on a $100 bet, while negative odds (-) show how much you need to wager to win $100.

Popular Hockey Bet Types

Moneyline – The simplest hockey bet. Just pick which team will win the game.

Puck Line – Hockey’s version of a point spread, typically set at ±1.5 goals. Favorites must win by two or more goals, while underdogs can win outright or lose by one goal and still cover.

Totals (Over/Under) – Bet on whether the combined goals scored by both teams will go over or under the sportsbook’s projected total.

60-Minute Line – Similar to a Moneyline bet, but only regulation time counts. You can bet on either team to win in regulation or on the game ending in a tie after 60 minutes.

Prop Bets – Wagers on specific game or player outcomes, such as first goal scorer, player shots on goal, or player points.

Parlays –  Combine multiple bets into one ticket for a larger payout. Every selection must win for the parlay to cash.

Futures – Long-term bets such as Stanley Cup Champion, conference winners, or season awards.

Live Betting – Bet on games as they happen, with odds constantly updating throughout the action.

The Hot Picks Approach

Our team focuses on researching injuries, starting goaltenders, line combinations, scheduling spots, and betting market movement before placing wagers. Consistent preparation and discipline are key components of long-term success.

Bet Responsibly!!!

Always set a budget, avoid chasing losses, and only wager what you can afford to lose. Sports betting should be entertaining and approached with discipline.

With a solid understanding of hockey betting fundamentals and insights from The Hot Picks team of winning professional sports bettors, you’ll be ready to attack the NHL season with confidence.
